Lifebox

Lifebox, a global nonprofit advancing safe surgical practices, asked for help to improve how hospitals in low- and middle-income countries adopt the WHO Safe Surgery Checklist. The challenge wasn’t creating new technical content, but rather making existing knowledge more accessible and aligned—especially for local clinical leaders tasked with implementation.

We synthesized over 700 pages of existing materials, conducted interviews with stakeholders who had firsthand experience in surgical implementation, and developed a clear picture of the end-user journey—highlighting common friction points and unmet needs faced by clinicians championing the checklist.

The final deliverables included a proposed set of updated promotional and explainer materials—visualized as a unified, introductory guidebook—intended to orient new users to the program’s intent without overwhelming them. We also delivered a synthesized journey map and directional recommendations, outlining areas where Lifebox could pursue lightweight, quick-win interventions to streamline content delivery, clarify communication, and support checklist adoption more intuitively.
